Hamlet essay

"Though this be madness, yet there is method in't" brings a very hidden aspect to Hamlet. This quote speaks to me that what everybody else is seeing from the outside may not be how it really is on the inside and secondly it's a method to distraction. Hamlets  diversion is a key component to this play especially in the first acts of the play, miss guiding everyone of his shrewd persona. Polonius states this quote in act two scene two to justify why he was spying on Hamlet. Polonius believes Hamlet is sane but thinks he is acting out as a distraction or a “method”. this partially  confirms to hamlet that polonius is on to what he is doing and his technique to mislead others. This quote is so important because it was the first time anyone was really able to see what hamlet was doing and how he was fooling everyone.
Tone was more than pressing to keep track of in this play because without knowing the tone, a lot of the lines could have been misinterpreted . happy definitely wouldn't be the word I would use to describe the tone of this play. try fearful, clever, mournful, mocking, paranoid, the list could really go on forever. The central theme wasn't hard to recognize either. I found the theme to portray that even though what your seeing from the outside may not make sense, it does to the person on the inside. its weird because my mom used to always tell me "trust me it may not make sense what im doing now, but it will later". and that's mainly why I chose this quote because as soon as we talked about it in class I automatically made the connection to what my mother had said. nobody knew what hamlet was doing, they just though he was crazy. but sooner then later they all discovered that he really hadn't gone mad at all. that in fact, they all were the mad ones.

Intro to Poetry

1. The significance of the poem "working together" is that in order to get anything accomplished in this world you have to work together. It could be something as simple as a group project or sending a space ship into space. Most of everything in this world requires teamwork and that's an important skill to have.
2. The tone of the poem is very gloomy and remorseful.
3. My mood as I read this poem was sad. It kinda made me realize more that things really don't stay the same throughout life. That people do get old and die. And that you have to live your life without regrets doing what you want and need to do or you'll end up dwelling over your life.
4. There is a shift when ha says "I am thinking of the way the intangible air" , it goes from talking about working together to lines filled with hidden meaning.
5. The theme of the poem is working together for a central purpose.

comparison poem essay

To comprehend means to grasp with the mind. there is no possible way you can comprehend these poems without deeply analyzing them, which is what i did with the poem working together by David whyte. this poem brings a sense of realness to a lot of things, and situations in the world. for example “we shape ourself to fit this world” most of us continuously do things to portray a person that is not who we truly are. we shape our self to what we think the world expects us to be, these worldly expectations. “and by the world are shaped again” . But the truth is the worldly expectations are made by us, we are the world, so if we  set the expectations realistically then we know how to live up to them realistically. “the visible and the invisible”. i took this as the people you see all over the tv and the magazines to us everyday people. but then i also compared this to all the recent race riots going on in ferguson. How African Americans feel invisible and they feel as if the white race is the only visible race. it really could be interpreted many different ways. “working together in common cause, to produce the  miraculous” on this earth nothing is accomplished without working together for a goal. weather is something small like a group project in school or something larger then life like sending a spaceship into space. skipping down a couple of lines and we get to the lines saying “shape our own self by forming it well, to the great intangibles about us”. this served as an amazing close out because at the end of the day, just like at the end of the poem its about what we make out of life with what we have.
this poem stood out to me more than the others for one reason, i could really relate to it and comprehend what the authors point was. The other poems i didn't seem to interpret well because they kinda beat around the bush. “summons” by Robert Francis did not make any sense to me whatsoever. it was hard to relate or to take a meaning or for in fact anything away from it. “Keep me from going to sleep too soon Or if I go to sleep too soon Come wake me up. Come any hour Of night. Come whistling up the road. Stomp on the porch. Bang on the door.” compare that to the first two lines of “we shape ourselves..” and it's clear to see which one is easier to understand.  when i read that poem, i don't know what i'm reading, its a bunch of random words put together to make a poem. you have no clue who Francis is talking about or who he is referencing.
David whyte's poem is a work of literature i can see applying to my everyday life whereas Robert Francis’s has little or no meaning to me.

Poetry remix

We shape our self
To fit this world

And by the world
Are shaped again.

The visible
And the invisible

Working together
In common cause,

To produce
The miraculous.

I am thinking of the way
The intangible air

Passed at speed
Round a shaped wing

Easily
Holds our weight.

So may we, in this life
Trust

To those elements
We have yet to see
Or imagine,
And look for the true

Shape of our own self,
By forming it well
To the great

Literature Analysis #2

The color purple

  1. This novel is about an african american girl named celie, she doesn't come from much but the one thing she can say she has is her sister. growing up she was abused and raped by her step father Alphonso who fathered her two children. Cellie is infatuated with writing letters to God looking for some sort of answer, but was soon discouraged by the passing of her mother. Cellie and Nettie continue getting into heated arguments with Alphonso, who continues to beat Cellie.  one day “Mr” comes looking for permission to marry Nettie, but Alphonso offers up Cellie instead because of his growing lust of Nettie. Cellie moves out to be with her new unwanted husband and this results in Alphonso starting to beat on Nettie. as the story unfolds “Mr” still wants Nettie and he decided to pursue her so she  decides to run away leaving Cellie to think Nettie has died. Shugg “mr’s” other lover comes down to town and butts heads with Cellie, but then it only became a matter of time before they put their differences aside and realized that they were sexually attracted to each other. Shugg finds another man besides “mr” to form a relationship with while continuing her relationship with Cellie. while shugg was staying in cellie and “mr’s” house she finds letters from Nettie to Cellie that were hidden by “Mr”. these letters confirmed that she was still alive living in africa with two missionaries who have two adopted children. these children were cellies. this gives cellie the confidence to stand up to “Mr” saying that her and Shuggs are moving to tennessee. they both relocate into Tennessee and later Cellie finds that Alfonso had passed away. she moves back to Georgia to inherit her mother's property like she was supposed to before.
  2. There are far more themes in “ The color Purple” than i could even tell you but one that really popped out to me is that you have to find ways to take control of your life and figure out who you are as a person. some situations in Cellies life were uncontrollable, but for other situations she let people control what she did and who she was as a person. and i know what you're thinking, it was a time where things weren't easy for woman, but she took countless years to build up courage to tell the man she was in an arranged marriage to and who was cheating on her that she was leaving, she really cared for her sister but never pursued to really search for her. there are little things she could have done, or i think she could have done to better her life even if it was by the smallest amount. This i believe also goes along with feminism, and standing up for what you know your rights are.
  3. The tone of the book is serious, blissfully ignorent, empowered, and fearfull.
Empowered- “ Im poor, black, and i might even be ugly, but dear God i’m here. I’m     here.”
Serious-  “I loves Harpo, God Knows i do, but Ill kill him dead fo i let him beat me”.
Fearful- "He start to choke me, saying You better shut up and git used to it. But I don't never git used to it. And now I feels sick every time I be the one to cook."
Ignorence- He beat me today cause he say I winked at a boy in church. I may have got somethin in my eye but I didn’t wink. I don’t even look at mens. That’s the truth.
  1. syntax- Lets not forget this story is told in first person by Cellie who wasn't fortunate enough to have an education provided to her.the syntax of the story is very jumbled and uses words in the wrong place with the wrong meaning. or either her speeches just dont make sence.
"Well, us talk and talk about God, but I’m still adrift. Trying to chase that old white man out of my head. I been so busy thinking bout him I never truly notice nothing God make."
diction-  the diction in “The color purple” is uneducated and illiterate.
"Us sleep like sisters, me and Shug."
symbolism- the color purple is very symbolic in the book. at the beginning Cellie is having a hard time in life, struggling with everything, her dad, her mother passing her sister and having an arranged marriage. she has no purple to show a light in her life, the light that God is giving her. then she meets Shugg, and Shugg shows her what its like to have color in her life. i believe that purple symbolizes all that Cellie has gone through to get to where she is and that she can finally be self satisfied, independent and happy.
Shugg: More than anything God love admiration.
Celie: You saying God is vain?
Shugg: No, not vain, just wanting to share a good thing. I think it pisses God off when you walk by the colour purple in a field and don't notice it.
Celie: You saying it just wanna be loved like it say in the bible?
Shug: Yeah, Celie. Everything wanna be loved. Us sing and dance, and holla just wanting to be loved. Look at them trees. Notice how the trees do everything people do to get attention. except walk?
Shug: Oh Miss Celie, I feels like singing!
Tone - the tone of “the color purple” is rather depressing
personification- “For six months the heavens and the winds abused the people of Olinka. Rain came down in spears, stabbing away the mud of their walls.”
simile-  “ Sound echo across the yard like shots”
hyperbole- “When Nettie’s foot come down on the porch I almost die.”
rhetorical questions- “Did I Tell you he writes verses? And loves to sing?”
imagery- “The looking glass hang crooked, the curtains torn. The bed look like the stuffing pulled out.”
metaphor-  ”They swing through every now and then, drunk from eating and enjoying the heat, buzz enough to make me drowsy.”

Characterization
  1. Alice Walker uses direct characterization in many ways in her astounding book “The color Purple”, here are some of the few i found. One that seemed quite obvious to me was how one of the characters were named Shugg, standing for sugar. Shugg was one that everyone wanted a piece of, she was sweet and she was constantly being described as dressing desirable. "All the men got they eyes glued to Shug's bosom. I got my eyes glued there too. I feel my nipples harden under my dress. My little button sort of perk up too. Shug, I say to her in my mind, Girl, you looks like a real good time, the Good Lord knows you do." Another example is in the beginning of the book when celie is talking to God asking why she ends up in so many undesirable situations. my impression of Shugg is that shes just like everyone else, shes confused and lost but she just wants to have someone to love and someone to love her. Another example is in the beginning of the book when Celie was talking to go asking why she is always put in bad situations that she had no control over. “Dear God, I am fourteen years old. I have always been a good girl. Maybe you can give me a sign letting me know what is happening to me.” I thought after i read this that this seemed to be a girl who had the best intentions and who deserved the world, but who always seemed to catch the hot end of the stick. some examples of indirect characterization are  when Alphonso treats Nettie better than he did Celie. Also when he would beat Celie for reasons that were unexplainable.”He beat me today cause he say I winked at a boy in church. I may have got somethin in my eye but I didn’t wink. I don’t even look at mens.”  I believe Alice Walker heavily used indirect characterization with Alphonso because on top of that the first time we meet him in the book is when he is raping celie. “He  never had a kine word to say to me. Just say You gonna do what your mammy wouldn’t.” while the rest of that quote is a bit more than a little too inappropriate to finish. to tag onto that example another one is of the character Albert. We go through the book thinking Albert is a horrible controlling human being, but then he suddenly changes and realizes that it just might be a little better to be kind. this is indirect characterization because when Celie leaves him for Shugg and shugg wants to move to memphis without him he soon realizes that he is all alone because of his actions. Albert then decides to make a kind gesture towards Celie to try to make peace with her by revealing to her that her sister is not dead by giving her all of the old letters she had sent to Celie months before.
  2. I feel as if the Syntax and Diction stayed the same through the whole book. Celie wasn't one to put blame or judgement on anyone and since the book was told through her eyes i would say it would be hard to pick out if the syntax or diction did change at any particular point in the book. I don't believe there is an example because never once did Celie react differently from how she would have acted in any other part of the book in any one particular scene.
  3. Celie is a very dynamic character to me, towards the end of the book you really see her start to become this confident self sure human being which is such a big change from the beginning of the book when she was timid lost scared and confused all of the time. I would consider Celie a round character, the more you read the more you see how she thinks and that there is a lot more to her then what everyone thinks. you find that she's not stupid, she just hasn't been taught what's applicable to living life, and once she starts learning she begins changing into a stronger person.
  4. I came away from this book feeling like i met Celie and i went through some of her struggles with her. i know it may be kind of weird but i feel like you really know a person when you know or live through some of the strangest moments they have experienced in their lifetime. so i took one of Celies strangest moments is her affair with Shugg. i feel like in the beginning only close friends would know all the details along with negatives and positives of the situation. That short but detailed section really made me feel like i was one of her good friends who she was just telling a story to.

The Point Of Canterbury Tales is .....

The point of Canterbury tales is to tie together different people, stories, personalities, and morals by putting them into a collection of stories. the stories look into themes of love and corruption. throughout the story irony seems to be what the author Geoffrey Chaucer clearly wanted to bring out the hidden message in the stories.

Green Eggs And Hamlet

A) what i know about Hamlet is that it was a story of tragedy and that the play took place in Denmark
B) I know that Shakespeare writes plays that a lot of people my age don't really understand because they were written a really long time ago in broken English.
i don't know much about him lets just put it that way. but the most important that i know is that he wrote Romeo and Juliet.
C)i don't know why everyone else frowns, but i frown when I hear his name because for one it involves reading, and two i have no idea what the hell he is talking about half the time. but i hope this section in the class will give me a better understanding.
D)what we could do to make studying Shakespeare easier is to come up with activities in class to make his work remember-able and not so boring.

Phonar Assignment

My moment is a moment that I feel I will never get to see again. Two ignorant but blissful humans that are unaware of anything that's taking place on these train tracks. This was a moment before something brutal could have had a fatal effect on my family. But this was also a moment before my family was thankful for each other like never before . Pure would be a word to describe this. And never again will they ever be as pure as they were in this moment.

Character study 1

i wish i could get some sleep. there isn't a minute that goes by when i don't hear a car honking or my roommate snoring. i had always wanted to live in a big city "the city of dreams" is what they all call it. and don't get me wrong its amazing, but it would be nice to have uninterrupted sleep once in a blue moon. back to sleep, i wake up at the sound of kendrick Lamars voice , 6 a.m, iv got five minutes to get out of my room or im late for the third day in a row. cant be late. i brush my teeth and throw on some sweats not even thinking to do my hair. maybe i should stop all the late nights out at the club. i get to class right on time, the teacher starts in on the days lecture, i cant stand this class. especially because i always end up having to sit next to a guy who reeks of bad cologne that smells like dark cherries took a turn for the worst. its okay two hours and im out then i can go back to bed. wishful thinking. too bad i have two essays to write and a 278 page book i have to read all by tomorrow, its going to be an amazing day i can feel it.

My dashboard

i personally didn't feel the need to sign up for the Netvibe website. my opinion of it is yes it seems to make life a little easier with everything that you need all right there for you to see but i find it to be even more of a distraction. i get off task very easily so to see everything that's going on i would never get anything done. im the type of person where i need to completely shut down my social media to focus and to concentrate. thanks for the suggestion though its fun to see new things!

Characterization

Characterization of the Knight

The author uses both direct and indirect characterization throughout the tale. An example of indirect characterization was when the author shows that the knight is a leader when he takes on the roll to tell the first story. An example of direct characterization is when the narrator states "...with wonderful agility and strength." Chaucer uses direct characterization but relies on indirect  to characterize the knight's personality.

Chaucer displays a large and diverse range of attitude towards life. The tales are satirical and comical. Another tone is also very admiring towards the knight.

Humor: The plot thickens through the use of irony when the good knight dies. He was given his freedom to go off on his own and pursue anything, yet he comes back for a girl which ultimately leads him to death.

Master piece in progress

Honestly it wasent hard for me to figure out what I wanted to do for my masterpiece because it's something I have always thought of doing. I love working with the homeless, so naturally iv always wanted to do a documentury on homeless people and how they became homeless. It's something I think we all wonder. Why not get the answers

Another big question for you

I feel as if this year i came into high school with a bit of an attitude. Why. Why ? Why because I feel as if my past three years of high school have been waisted doing homework and listening to lectures that are going to do nothing for me in the next five years . Lectures I really don't care about. So another big question why doesn't school teach things in life that people are going to need to know? Why do we spend four years of our life competing for grades and stressing out about shit that no one is really going to remember .

Will study for food

I found a scholarship on doSomething.org. It's a really simple scholarship and all it requires is for you to get a little crafty. What you do is take something your good at and put "I'm a boss" in front of it. Hence the reason why it's called the I'm a boss scholarship. For example I would put I'm a boss at dressing exoticly. Because that's something I love and I feel that I do different than everyone else. I would need the 2,500 for room and board for college and I would hope to earn the full 2,500.

Reflections on week 1!

1. I think me working and also doing a sport is  definitely going to affect my experience in this class. I get really busy an I end up being more tired than I realize, then that contributes to me doing homework and falling asleep in class. But I hope to overcome those obsticols and get a more than  excellent grade in this class.
2. The best learning experience that changed me was reading "A long way Gone" in my sophomore English class for a literature analysis. I learned a lot about the rebels in Africa and how they come and terrorize innocent cities and take over completely. I had a group of 3 other students that read it with me but I don't believe they got into it as much as I. It taught me that I learned a lot better when it's something that I think is interesting. I knew I was learning because I never read anything and I read that book any time I got a chance cover to cover.
3. I'm excited about the way Dr. Preston thinks, he has a very Diffrent mind set then other teachers. I'm concerned about the work load but I'm more then capable of adjusting . I look forward to self teaching . I think it will make a big difference in my life because for once a teachers not threatening everyone to do there homework or else there's going I be a consequence.

Montaigne/Austen Essay

Usally when Authors write books they stick to one topic in hopes that the reader will get A deeper understanding of what thoughts they are trying to portray. This isn't the case in the Montaigne essays. Every thought that was generated, every word that was thought of,and every sentence that was put together was put into what i would call Michel De Montaines diary and not an essay. Jane Austens work does not compare to Wallaces work in a way of structure. infact it seems that she can not at all gear off in another direction with an unfinished idea. She focuses on the rising love between Elizabeth and Darcy and strictly stays in the line of an ordered secretive relationship that keeps the readers wondering. Exactly what makes them different, that Austen is able to hold information in to keep you wondering about what's happening next while Montaigne lays it all out for you. "what goes on inside is just too fast and huge and all interconnected for words to do more than barley sketch the outlines of at most on tiny little part of it at any given instant" Montaigne goes from topics of education to religion that seems to be the least bit related. but then he explains the connection that goes on within his mind although most are still very amazing to me.but as his writing seemed to be everywhere at once he still had quite a bit of structure in it. all of his arguments were supported with quotes from greek mythology, and latin, and Italian phrases as well. Montaine opened up the minds of many to expand the ideas that go through everyone's mind and turn them into something much bigger and greater. Jane Austen did not just connect her thoughts, she connected her characters as well. her story was told from two perspectives, one as a narrator or and the other being Elizabeth.

My big question

Why is it that we look up to people we don't even know. People in movies, models, actors, we say we wish we were them, but truth is. We don't even really know who they are

my essay

Everyone has a safe place somewhere you go to disconnect yourself in the world, a place that has many past memories, or even just a place to rest your head at night. Now as your picturing that place in your head, imagine a getting destroyed by an army of rebels who's only intention is to kill and destroy. Ravaging through everything and anything, and worst of all exterminating your family. How would your story be written in the aftermath?
Taking place in the Sierra Leone, 12-year-old Ishmael Beah was forced to run away from his home because of attacking rebels. Beah experience what none could even imagine, coming home to it destroyed and abandoned home. from encounter with his demolished Safe haven, he took on quite a bit of sadness and turned it into rage. It's exciting to see how hurt feelings and lost hope you can make someone want to accomplish and conquer everything in the world, even more when anger is turned into drive. Even though what he wanted to accomplish wasn't the best thing. This story if anything else is a transformation story going from complete fullness and joy, to abandonment and loneliness, to loving and educating others.
from spending a month in the rain forest fighting for your life, being addicted to marijuana and cocaine, doing the same things to other families as what tore yours apart and killing prisoners brutally, you can infer that nothing more was going to be made out of ishmaels life and he was going to end up dead like everyone else. But that's exactly what makes his story so enriching and exciting. Again his life dramatically changed and he was given the opportunity to change lives. UNICEF removed Ishmael and other boys from the camp that brainwash them into becoming killing machines and gave them the home again. Soon with the recognition of how smart he is and what he could share with peopl so that they could take something from his experience. He traveled to the United States telling his story and teaching about the dangers in Africa.
Like Ishmael many of us would act out and turn the wrong direction if something so close to our hearts was ripped away so soon. But it really about what you do after the storm that counts. Making the most out of a situation is detrimental to learning and living. Take something bad and turn it into something worth wild.
